An Insider’s Look at the XBIZ 2019 Adult Awards
The XBIZ awards are the Oscars of the Adult Industry and are well known for honoring Porn film makers and actors, cam performers, and websites, but I’ll bet you didn’t know that they also give out awards for sex toys and adult retailers!
This year, we at Betty’s were thrilled to be nominated for Online Retailer of the Year – Pleasure Products. In a business where online stores come and go seemingly monthly, it was such an honor to be nominated by our industry peers for consideration, only 4 years after our launch.
The XBIZ Awards are one of the nights that those of us who work on the pleasure products side of things get to rub elbows with the lovely folks who make the biggest porn flicks and adult websites out there, and as you may imagine, the evening is a complete blast.
Armed with my camera and dressed to the nines, I ventured to the Westin Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles ready to see the sights. And by sights, I mean the porn stars and the outfits!
The XBIZ red carpet was flanked by photographers and video cameras, all there to catch a glimpse of some of the biggest names in the adult industry, including this year’s host, Porn Actor, Director, Bestselling Author, and Sex Positive Activist Stormy Daniels.

After the red carpet came the awards ceremony and what struck me most is how sincere and thrilled the winners and presenters were. Sure, there were some raunchy moments and at one point two presenters proceeded to make out on stage, but in the end, these are hard working people who are doing what they love.
Over and over, winners spoke about how thankful and grateful they were to their supportive co-workers and families. They spoke about taking the shame out of sex work and making it a safe place for everybody. It was really an inspiring night and while Betty’s didn’t win, we salute all of our fellow nominees and winners who are taking the adult industry out of the seedy corners and making it a positive, safe, and inclusive place to be.
